Odd Pear OutI love painting pears. I love every thing about them: their generous shapes, smooth texture, and rich colors. When painting pears I add layer after thin layer of color to build up the depth, each layer developing the shape of the pear and the texture of the skin. My painting is designed to capture the way some pears glow from within. In Odd Pear Out I wanted to emphasize that quality. By placing them in strong light and painting a black background, I wanted to show the viewer how much, to me, they look like some precious gold bauble, rich with the patina of age. The purple-gray shadow unifies the picture, pulling the bold contrasts together and providing a strong complement to the gold. |
