Mostly Argyles

My husband learned from his mother to roll up his socks and secure them with rubber bands. And, when I first saw his rolled up Argyles, I knew I had to paint them. He thought I was joking, but being a good sport he wore white socks to work for two weeks while I painted his favorites. The brightly patterned bundles when placed side by side form a picture reminiscent of a quilt. I love the color combinations. And the bundles, though similar, have subtle differences. I like the way the rubber bands make a pattern of their own throughout the painting. But, I especially like the way the patterns on the Argyles look like bright arrows sending the eye here and there around the painting. The original painting first hung in a show alongside an antique quilt. It was perfect!
