Chico Leaving -- Leaves as inspirationI never grow tired of painting leaves; they are one of my favorite things to paint. They are so varied; I always see them with fresh eyes. Looking at my paintings of leaves soothes my soul. I came up with the idea to paint a black background behind leaves a few years ago as I was walking my old dog through the city park that winds through our town. It was a misty, fall day and the brightly colored leaves were plastered to the wet asphalt. There were many different varieties forming a shiny collage with the dark pavement peeking through. I became so excited with the idea for a painting. I immediately started collecting leaves to paint. My dog became very impatient with me. We hurried home so that I could lay out my composition. That first painting was small and glistened, just the way the leaves had that misty day. The inspiration with leaves has grown and each fall finds me adding to my collection and re-interpreting the rich colors, and infinite variety of shapes with each new picture. |
